As I wandered along the rugged cliffs of Santorini, I stumbled upon a hidden gem – the tranquil beach of Kampia. Tucked away in a peaceful cove, this sandy shore offers a quiet alternative to the island’s popular beaches.
What to Do ๐
- ๐๏ธRelax in tranquility: With few tourists, Kampia is perfect for relaxing under the Greek sun. I found a few umbrellas for rent (โฌ10 for 3 chairs and an umbrella).
- ๐Swim and snorkel: The calm, crystal clear waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. But beware – you’ll need water shoes because of the rocky seafloor!
- ๐ฝ๏ธBeachside dining: Kampia’s excellent beachside tavern serves delicious local cuisine at fair prices. I feasted on freshly fried fish with views of the Aegean Sea.
Where to Stay ๐จ
I discovered a few small hotels tucked away in the coves near Kampia:
Hotel Akrotiriย – Charming cliffside hotel with sea view rooms, private beach access, and helpful staff. The bus to Fira stops right outside.
Sigal Villaย – Quiet villa with a great pool and amazing caldera views. The owner offers airport/port transfers.
Earino Suitesย – Spacious suites with plunge pools overlooking the sea. Friendly staff provide exceptional service.
Parking ๐ ฟ
Kampia has free public parking near the beach. Just beware the bumpy dirt road leading down to the cove – it’s accessible by car but quite an adventure!
